I'm Too Young For This...

...except my father was ten years younger when he did this for me.
My elder has to start looking at colleges. This is not at the forefront of her mind; rather, she's much more interested in learning to drive. And yes, she'll be doing that too.
But we're going to have to start looking seriously at colleges. The better tech schools include a local, but MIT is about the most selective and expensive in the country. There's Cornell, my alma mater, University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign (one of the best EE programs in the country), and closer but requiring a passport, McGill.
My mother-in-law will insist on Columbia and/or Yale; that's cool. We'll look.
But you know what would really help narrow down all the possible schools?
If we knew what she wants to do with her life.
C'mon, she's almost 16. I knew what I wanted to do for a career when I was 14. My dad took me to Rose Hulman, Cornell, RPI, and the South Dakota School of Minerals and Mining. (Okay, that last one was because we happened to be in the neighborhood.)
[ETA:] Thank all of you for pitching in and commenting here; it's being a big help. I just want to point out that I was being sarcastic in my last paragraph's opening. Yes, I did know what I wanted to do when I was 14, and I am still doing it, but I know that I'm a total freak in that regard. I do not truly expect my daughter(s) to know what they want to do yet.
