The Other Tuxedo Cat
May. 2nd, 2011 11:31 amYes, another cat post. I swear, my life seems to be in a tight orbit these days.
But the day after I buried Haiku, Tony took off.
tamidon and I have two other cats, litter-mates, which she adopted several years ago. One is a big meat-loaf of a linebacker cat, gray with white tuxedo markings, named Keller; the other is a lithe black with tuxedo markings and reverse mustache (white on black face) cat named Tony. Tony, as much as we love him, is fairly stupid.
So, as I said, Tony zip-escaped out the front door, and didn't come back.
But yesterday, around 3pm, as I was bringing my younger back from circus practice, we saw him! We saw him in the bushes by the side of our house, and he took off like a shot again. We looked around the yard again, but he's still not ready to come back in. Or even acknowledge us.
Then last night, one of our neighbors called, saying they saw him in our driveway as they were walking their dog.
So we prepared a Hav-a-Hart trap, but either he's been living off the land, or he's too clever for such a trap (not likely), or he's simply got some kind of nest to hang out in.
If the trap doesn't work today or tonite, I think we'll just take to leaving food out for him, to get him more comfortable with the idea of hanging around the house. Eventually, he'll see his brother staring at him thru the windows, and he'll want to come back in.
I'm so relieved to know he's still alive, and that he didn't take off to New Hampshire or something.
