Last night, I carried him to bed with me. It is generally his nature to sleep on our bed for some portion(s) of the night, but his limited mobility meant that he might not be able to make it up onto the bed on his own, so I set him down and crawled under the covers. He was sidled up against my thigh.
Later, I woke up to discover that he'd crawled up to put his forepaws and head on my left arm. He was purring, but very softly. (I've heard him snore before, and he didn't sound like that.) I stayed awake, just being with him, for around 45 minutes before I fell asleep again.
When morning came, he and I were still in that position. I got up, prepared the morning cat food, shooed the other cats away from it, and nuked the rice pillow for three minutes. When it was good and warm, I arranged it under a towel next to the water fountain, and carried old Haiku to it. I also gave him the soft cat food with the cosequin sprinkled on it.
Checking on him later, he'd licked the cosequin off, but hadn't eaten any of the food.
Later still, he'd crawled off the rice pillow and into the corner of the room. This was odd. His hind legs were splayed out behind him, obviously not helping a whit. My younger gently carried him back to the rice pillow. Then it occurred to me: we'd recently taken a chair out of that corner for re-upholstering. Being blind, he had no idea it wasn't there, and was likely looking for a place to hide.
And by the time we left for school and work, he still hadn't eaten anything.
