Last night, while my younger and I were out catching my elder's performance of Sweeney Todd, [livejournal.com profile] tamidon got home from work, and was trying to unwind when the ice dams came off the upper roof in the back and fell onto the roof of the family room. This nearly sent her out of her skin, poor thing.

This morning, at approximately 6am, the ice dams on the other side of the back roof came down onto the roof right over our heads. This may have startled [livejournal.com profile] tamidon, but not enough to get her out of bed. It startled my old cat Haiku enough to have him jump off me, and me enough to bolt upright and check to see whether there was any visible damage (there wasn't).

The ice dams off the front of the house are still pitched about a foot off the edge of the roof (as of this morning, when I left). Thag's work a while back was successful, in that the dams are now in three pieces, instead of one long multi-ton piece. They seem to be melting, rather than pitching forward in an attempt to destroy our front steps.

But I'll know more about that when I get home tonite.
