Dream Tools
Mar. 16th, 2010 04:49 pmA while back,
coebird asked the relatively innocent question, "Do you dream in color?". She got a fair number of "yes" answers, but mine was even more than that:
"Yes, I dream in color. And when I realize that I'm dreaming, and that the dream isn't going to my liking, I immediately look for a traffic cone. As soon as I turn my head (in the dream), I find one. And the bright orange cone serves to put me in control, turning the 'vivid' dream into a 'lucid' dream."
I first remember doing that in a dream when my elementary school was being threatened by Godzilla (or "Gojira", but I didn't know him by that name at the time). Mind you, I was in high school when I had this dream. But I turned, found the traffic cone, knew that I was now in charge, and decided, "The problem here is that Godzilla is too big". I did the "I'm crushing your head" thing, except that instead of crushing Godzilla's head laterally, I shrank him vertically. Once I did that, the firefighters caged him and tossed him into the back of their truck, and resumed putting out the fire.
From those memories, I started thinking of other standard dream tools that I use, and the one that came to mind was the Sobriety Hoop. Whenever I'm partying in the dream (or spell-struck, or otherwise in a muddled state of mind, which is probably often considering that I'm asleep at the time), if I need to snap myself back to my full mental faculties, I reach for a hula hoop (which is always there), and either step thru it or I lower it down over my head and my body passes thru it. As I emerge, that part of me is sober. I once left the hoop around my ankle, and my foot was still asleep. So to speak.
I've used these two tools in multiple dreams over the course of my life.
So please answer these questions:
Do you dream in color?
Do you have any tools you use in your dreams?
Have your dreams ever had an intermission or run credits?
