It's Official
Feb. 1st, 2006 04:23 pmI mentioned last week that I took a day off from work. There is no distinction here between sick days and personal days, so it was called a "sick day". On that day, I interviewed many good people at iRobot about a job there doing for the PackBot what I've spent the last three years doing for factory-floor plastic-mold extraction robots.
They offered me a massive raise over what I'm currently making, much better benefits for much less co-pay, bonuses which haven't been vaporware for the last few years, 50% more annual vacation time (which will prompt me to take the kids to more ball games etc.), a situation with a career path, a business laptop for me to take hither and yon, and quite possibly employee discounts on the Roomba and other consumer products (altho honestly, I haven't even looked in that direction yet).
Things have been so wacky today, it was four and a half hours between me getting back from signing the contract and telling my immediate supervisor (and I had to crowbar him out of a vendor meeting to do it). He's taking it like a shovel to the face, but he's congratulating me for getting out of here.
sensesurfer: I'm not ignoring what you told me at Arisia. It does weigh on my mind. But this is so obviously the right move for me right now, I'm doing it anyway. I'll be revisiting the issues on at least a weekly basis.
I've got at least a week and a half here, possibly two weeks and a half, and then it's the first day of kindergarten all over again.
